As a resident of California you are no doubt aware that you live in an earthquake prone region. Because of the high risk of damage due to an earthquake not all insurance companies offer earthquake coverage. Purchasing California earthquake insurance is a smart idea and may be far less expensive than having to pay for the repair of your earthquake damaged home with your own funds.

Your standard home insurance policy may cover you for fire or structural damage to your home but if the damage is the result of an earthquake your standard insurance coverage doesn’t apply. In the same way your earthquake policy may cover your home against flooding due to the affects of an earthquake but it would not protect you if the flooding is caused by some other calamity.

Depending on what you want to have protected by your earthquake insurance it may be wise to carefully examine the fine print so you know exactly what your policy covers. Some policies don’t provide coverage to outbuildings such as a garage or shed so if you would like to have these covered then you need to ensure they can be included in your policy.

Your home is likely to be one of the biggest investments you make in your life time so don’t put your investment at risk. Financially protect yourself against a potential natural disaster by purchasing California earthquake insurance.
