Recent studies show that most California Homeowner’s are not adequately prepared for disasters like wildfire, earthquake and flood.

Key findings of the study were:

  • Fewer than 20 percent of households have structurally reinforced their homes or had their homes inspected for earthquake resistance.
  • Only 40 percent keep the recommended minimum of three gallons of water stored per person.
  • Fewer than 20 percent of California households have purchased earthquake insurance.
  • More than 80 percent of households have first aid kits, flashlights and batteries in their house but only 40 percent of Californians have made family disaster plans.   SOURCE CaliforniaVolunteers

There are so many other areas that we often forget to plan for such as pets, contacting our kids where they are at school or having optional (out of state?) phone numbers for everyone in the family to call. Don’t forget local phone lines and electricity may be out. Be sure you have back up copies of important papers or a file ready to go in the event of an evacuation.  Make a plan now!
